About the project

Research group in the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of Vilnius University deals with statistical physics, complex nonlinear systems, econophysics and physics of risk. From our point of view the term physics of risk, which was introduced by EU COST project P10 in the period 2004-2008, is the most successful reflection of our interests. At the moment this cooperative EU research activity is continued in the new COST project MP0801 Physics of Competition and Conflicts, where our contribution from Vilnius is targeted at the search of statistically reasonable models of social systems, first of all stochastic and agent based modeling. This site is the popular reflection of our views at the rapidly developing field of research posted with the help of EU structural fund projects: 2006-2008 Mokslas. Mokslininkai. Visuomenė., and 2009-2011 Mokslas verslui ir visuomenei. We present various interactive models of natural, social and economic systems, which you can test just in the window of your browser or download to your computer as an autonomous computer program. Alongside the models built up by various researchers in the world we present popular versions of our own research results. First of all we are trying to attract interest of young persons looking for the realization of their personal creativity as well as to send the message to the social engineers and enterprises about rapidly developing area of research. The part of presented models will be related with real examples of business management processes.

We will use few transparent categories to classify our posts ( articles, descriptions) and interactive models (media) presented in this site:

  1. Economics
  2. Econophysics
  3. Econometrics
  4. Dynamical chaos
  5. Cellular automata
  6. Fractals
  7. Stochastic models
  8. Networks
  9. Agent based models
  10. Models of business processes

Good day,

I’m Msc Aleksejus Kononovicius. I have taken up interest in Physics of Risk and Conflicts back in 2006. At that time I have started to participate in the EU structural fund project Science. Scientists. Society (lt. Mokslas. Mokslininkai. Visuomenė) within which this website, Physics of Risk, was included. While writing articles for this website I have familiarized myself with this rather young and non-orthodox branch of Physics. After project was finished I continued to deepen my knowledge in Physics of Risk and Conflicts while writing my academical papers. And now I’m happy that can continue to work again filling in this website, while once again participating in another EU structural fund project Science for business and society (lt. Mokslas verslui ir visuomenei).

Welcome,

I am Vygintas Gontis, principal investigator of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of Vilnius University. My researches activity in physics continues from 1977, starting from the plasma physics, dynamicsal chaos of classical and quantum systems, statistical physics and moving towards new area characterized by the terms such as econophysics or physics of risk. You can find more information about my research activity at the personal web site www.gontis.eu.
